I know I'm a little short, like 
a blue butterfly against an elm tree, 
but my shrink assures me 
 
there is a twenty percent chance 
I will have another growth spurt 
soon. And I've been meaning 
 
to add a hyphen to my career's name.

actress-musician or the opposite?
 
I'm leasing punctuation.
And you needn't worry,
I'm a real star, ready to burn
 
and die. Just not today. 
I have people to pretend, yet.
And I have experience, though
 
limited to a fourth grade production 
of Alice in Wonderland. I was
the six of diamonds and right next 
 
to the Queen when she screamed, 
"Off with his head!" Little Mary,
playing the Queen, got confused, 
 
because Alice was played by 
Joey Turner. I played it cool inside
my giant cardboard box. My panache. 
 
Oh, I joke about it now because 
I have a good sense of humor. 
Which you'll see if I get the part.
 
It's important, you see. There's 
nothing better than laughter
to bring us idols down.
